Looking Beyond Price
When owners first begin to consider selling their company they’re often faced with a number of questions that are difficult to find the answer to. The one that always seems to be the most important is price; how much can I get for the sale of my company?
As wealth accumulation is such an important factor for so many of us, particularly for company owners, it is difficult to see past the best offer for your company being of the highest value.
We see so many owners spend a long time looking for the highest valuation only to end up being happy to lower their expectations when they find the right buyer. This is often the one who has the best future strategy for their company and more importantly their staff, one who is local and understands the market, one who offers the best earn out terms, or simply one they strike up an immediate relationship with.
Whilst valuation is never a factor that should be ignored, company owners should also look to identify at least 3 things other than sale price that they want from a buyer, as these will always prove to be the most important factors is securing a successful deal. Headford can assist owners to identify their preferred objectives and endeavour to find acquirers who will meet these objectives. A lot of time and hassle can be saved in searching for a buyer by looking at factors other than value, and what is so often the case is that when these are found a good sale price follows.
