GERMANY\\\ Europe Central
Germany is still the centre of the Continent and its economic powerhouse; it’s no accident that so many of the world’s leading logistics firms centre their operations there. If anything, the country’s economic dominance is set to grow as Europe emerges from recession.

Pallets in Germany – it can be done
The pallet network model can succeed in Germany, Europe’s largest logistics and transportation market, says the MD of Palletways Deutschland, Donald Pilz. Germany is an interesting and important market for Palletways, he says. Although the country is the most competitive market in Europe, “our efforts to establish a strong domestic pallet network are progressing extremely well.” He says that this is mainly
driven by Palletways’ unique side loading and unloading model which is of great benefit to customers, particularly those with heavy, oversized or damage-sensitive consignments. “This is reflected in the
significant growth in our network – both in terms of the independent transport providers who have signed up to be members of Palletways in Germany and the volume growth of 80% which we have generated in the last 12-18 months. We are also providing above 95% service quality, have a less than 0.1% damage rate and are offering an ever increasing
24 hour-service to customers.” Moreover, Pilz says he is very
satisfied with the development of international shipments to and from Germany, adding: “As the Palletways Group continues to roll out to and establish itself in new countries this will present new opportunities for the German network and support further volume growth. Currently we can trade with 12 other countries in the Group’s pan European network and as from 3 November, we will be launching in a new territory, Austria, which will form an integral part of the German operation. We are also looking to improve transit times to various destinations and add new products to our service offering.” Palletways offers two
standard service options – Premium or Premium+ for time critical express shipments, and Economy for more price sensitive palletised freight shipments. The network also offers value added services including morning and specific delivery time options. All services are offered as domestic
and
international
products
based on simple tariffs and supported by the Palletways Group’s IT system, developed in house, including the ability to track consignment status, regardless of the type of service and whether products are being delivered to Munich, Manchester,
Maastricht or
Madrid. For the future, Pilz says:
“We expect to offer services across wider geographies as Palletways establishes itself in new countries, as well as the development of more market oriented products, which includes solutions for B2B and e-commerce requirements.”
