Town Talk
JOE Diggines had to sell his car, a Morris 1000, 50 years ago to pay for his wedding to Brenda "and he hasn't stopped moaning about it since," she joked. The couple, from St Katherine's Lane, Snod-
land, celebrated their golden wedding with a holiday in Guernsey. Joe, from Forest Gate, London, and Brenda, of Hornchurch, Essex met at her sis- ter's engagement party in East Ham. "Joe rang me at work afterwards and we started to go out together straight away," said Brenda.
After marrying in Hornhurch they lived in
Forest Gate, East Ham and Penge before moving to Bromley where they stayed for 32 years. They used to visit their daughter in Strood and moved to Lakeside, Snodland 16 years ago. Ten years later they bought their bungalow in St Katherine's Lane. Joe worked as a carpenter on leaving school and has been self-employed for 45 years. Brenda was a typist before son Stephen and daughter Julie came along. Joe still keeps busy and no longer has time to play golf, while Brenda enjoys gardening.

ALMOST 50 children aged between four and 11 attended a summer playscheme organised by Tonbridge and Malling Council at SAMAYS Youth Centre in Holmesdale Technology College. Ranger Andrew Armstrong talked to children about the importance
of water safety and led them on a bug hunt. Mayor Sasha Luck joined the youngsters for fun and games with a colourful parachute and judged an art competition inspired by the bugs the children had found.
