Objections fail to stop homes plan

A 137-NAME petition and objec- tions from residents inTyland Lane failed to persuade Maidstone plan- ners to refuse an outline applica- tion for nine four-bedroom detached houses in Sandling. Developers P Fulker and J Bur-

bridge applied to demolish the in- dustrial units at Tyland Corner, replacing them with the homes, in a style in keeping with the timbered architecture of Tyland Barn and the surrounding buildings. Boxley Parish Council did not ob-

that the development would ad- versely affect the character of the AONB and, if permitted, it would create a precedent for further similar developments. Signatories said the schemewould

adversely affect the ecology of the area, cause parking problems and surrounding houses would experi- ence extra noise, disturbance, pollu- tion and loss of privacy, aswell as a loss of value to their homes. Members did express regret that

this development would mean the loss of a brownfield site and, with it, potential employment land, but Cllr Malcolm Greer said he believed it would be difficult to refuse and up- hold a case at appeal, given Maid- stone’s future housing need. Cllr Greer said he liked the design

but not the black weatherboarding, a view echoed by Cllr Dennis Collins who said: “I would prefer to see ‘normal’ housing – not something which mimics a farmyard!”

tured), who runs catering and drinks’ company Or- ganic Spirit fr o m Lenham, flew to Venice after beating 200 UK mixologists in London to go

through to the Luxardo cocktail final. His winning drink, Phoenix fromthe Flames, won him not only the praise of judges, but £3,000 and a silver- plated bottle of Luxardo Maraschino.

As part of the competition, David

earned extra points by mixing dol- celatte cheese, yellow peppers and saffron-infused vodka to create an on-the-spot cocktail, Dolce Vita Sweet Sunshine. Judges described his creation as “extraordinarily daring, but delightful to drink”. Matteo Luxardo, whose family has

produced Luxardo liqueurs since 1821, said: “The standard of the competition was fantastic, but David’s passion and creativity shone through and we were delighted to crown him thewinner.” Organic Spirit, which offers cocktail courses and mixologists for hire and event catering, also recently beat cocktail-makers from 36 countries to win the Jameson’s World Cocktail Final.
