Editor’s desk Uncertain future

Figures published by the Central Statistics Office have shown that the Irish economy is now growing at the fastest rate in seven years, with GDP expanding by 7.7 per cent in the year to the end of June. However, Ireland’s Dental magazine was out and about in Dublin this month canvassing opinion from dentists and they paint a different picture.
Many practices are seeing things pick up and some have been steady throughout the recession. But,
there were plenty of voices stating that things are still tough out in rural and remote practices and expressing concerns for the future. Problems with attendance and funding for medical card patients allied with the uncertainty over the imminent reforms to the Dentists Act have all contributed to the vision of an uncertain future for dentistry in Ireland.
