It employs about 1,800 office associates and mechanics in Nebraska and was expected to employ 22 interns this summer, most of them Nebraskans. State economic developers tout the fact that two of the nation’s most important transporters and logistical companies, Werner and Union Pacific, have headquarters in Omaha. “Werner has been a longtime, loyal member
of the Nebraska Trucking Association, offering their leaders as our leaders in not only our executive council, but also many times over the years in our Safety Management Council, Maintenance Council and Business Advisory Council,” said the NTA’s Johnson. Werner Enterprises, of course, isn’t just a Nebraska success story. It’s an American one.
As Leathers pointed out, most everything people buy traveled at least part of the way to their doorsteps in trucks. If those trucks are more efficient, everybody benefits. “So we really look at it as, you know,
serving America,” Leathers said. “So if we do
that well, and we take costs out while we’re doing it, the trucking industry can have about as much impact on inflation and about as much impact on the economy as any industry I can possibly think of. So we’re pretty proud of that.” nt
