Ben Vollmer/Scott Paterson Audition Audio & Electronics, LLC Cumming, Ga.

Career Summary:Vollmer – “My professional career actually started out in consulting and software development. In 1994 I started writing customer relationship modules that would later be incorporated into accounting and CRM systems.” Paterson – “Before I was even old enough to legally work it was obvious I was des- tined to sell. My first mobile electronics job was part-time sales in the car audio department at Best Buy. Quickly I became one of our store’s best salesmen.” Description of Duties: Vollmer – “Scott and I divide the hats, sometimes equally and sometimes not. I generally play the role of strategy and marketing.”
46 Mobile Electronics August 2014
Proudest professional career moment: Vollmer – “Te training we did this past December. Late last year, we had a terrible tragedy hit our shop with the passing of Walter Barno. In memory of Walter, we arranged for free CPR and AED training for any mobile electronics retailer in the area.” Paterson – “When I opened our facility as a small business partner in 2002. It held a sense of excitement knowing that I could help grow and shape a business that made a difference in our industry and in my fam- ily’s life.” Biggest mistake ever made as a business owner or manager: Vollmer – “Trust. I put too much faith and trust in one of our oper- ation’s team members. She used that trust to defraud us of a large sum of money and made a massive mess of our accounts. We have now started segmenting our roles and responsibilities.” Paterson – “I didn’t listen to my wife in regards to hiring an employee. Upon meet- ing this person, my wife told me she sensed red flags.”
Tree biggest loves, other than 12-volt: Vollmer – “First and foremost is my family. I am father of two boys who are growing up and I am excited to be there and be with them for their future challenges and successes. Secondly, my faith. Tirdly, I love coaching others and helping them succeed.”
Paterson – “I love more than anything being a father to my two beautiful daugh- ters and husband to my amazing wife. After that, I love music. Finally I love to learn. Early on, my parents taught me no matter what I may think, I will never know it all, and there is always going to be something that can be learned.”
Biggest influence in terms of expertise, professionalism and work ethic: Vollmer – “My overall largest influence has been my father. He is a truly awesome teacher and many of the life lessons I learned in his office many years ago are still lessons I use today.” Paterson – “It would have to be a com- bination of my parents and my wife and daughters. My parents taught me I should treat everyone with the respect they deserve, be fair with them, and in turn good things would be bestowed upon me.”
Vision for business in five years:Vollmer – “World domination. I see Audition Audio in five years’ time pioneering some business models that the mobile electronics industry hasn’t even considered.” Paterson – “Since I often have to play the voice of reason to Ben, I will expand on the world domination plan. After the growth we have seen this year, I fully expect to see domination in the greater North Atlanta market. I also expect to see a fundamental change in the general business practices of the entire industry nationwide. In short, I expect domination in ways that no one saw coming!”
