similar.” The product essentially takes control of the screen so the consumer can toggle between the factory radio and the Prodigy One.2 system. “It’s a unique feature, even where we have competition in other vehicles.” Wincek sees “some” competition for AAMP’s new and upcom- ing OEM integration products, but says none have the ecomode or button-reassignment features of the PAC Audio products. The company also provides set-up directions with a menu to follow for installation, so “it’s easy for an installer and end user to use and manipulate the product.” Part of what makes the iSimple InSeam PRO from AAMP unique, Wincek said, is that AAMP owns the steering wheel integration patent under its PAC brand. The product can work in vehicles with auxiliary audio input (aux-in) or FM radios. While other products have signal display or equalizers, Audio- control stands out by providing ones that are affordable ($399) and easy to install without having to buy new equipment or spend hours on sound adjustment, according to Reid. “We try to hit it out of the ballpark. Whatever your car came with, we can make it sound better.”
Marketing the Product Good products go nowhere without marketing and promo- tions to users, dealers and installers.
At Rockford Fosgate, most of the sales for these OEM integra- tion products involves direct-dealer only, with very little in the way of online sales. “We rely on the dealers to educate the con- sumer, so we have to educate our dealers,” said Hunter. Parrot hasn’t gone to end customers directly to market its OEM integration products but relies on working with OEMs and appearing at trade shows. “That’s our targeted audience,” Potter said.
AAMP provides collateral for both mobile expediters and
12-volt specialists at brick-and-mortar stores. Prodigy One.2 is “very well-suited for expediters because it solves the problem that many auto dealerships have of giving the customers what they want without losing the deal (over cost), so we suggest that installers and shops work with dealerships,” Wincek said. For marketing its PAC products, “the best tool in general is our website,” he said. “We have a really good fit-finder that our dealers can use. It’s also a great product to pitch to car deal- erships.” The safety aspect of the back-up camera is especially important to “soccer mom” drivers, he noted. Marketing the iSimple InSeam PRO relies on AAMP’s web- based resources, including a landing page just for that product. “We pitch it through the safety angle of using a smartphone in the car,” Wincek said. “It’s a great go-to product for any shop because it addresses safety aspects.”
