18 JULY Gossamer Tread’s Curiouser and Curiouser Norwich Arts Centre

16 JULY Live Art Club : Birdwatchers’ Wives Norwich Arts Centre

Spotted any gorgeous birds recently? Taking her inspiration from the thousand of ‘twitchers’ or birdwatchers that inhabit our lush country, performance artist Caroline Smith invites us to consider what would happen in the roles were reversed and the bird ran the show. Meet Rita Grebe, a seven-foot woman who thinks she’s a bird. Dressed in elaborate Great Crested Grebe plumage, and why the hell not, she promises a comical and surreal show where everything may not be as it seems. Definitely one to jot down in your notebook before it flies away.

Gossamer Tread are sashaying their mysterious way back into the Arts Centre this July with a Wonderland inspired cabaret night, hosted by the inimitable queen of hearts Lili La Scala. Stars this time around include Kiki Lovechild, a silent clown, and Ruby Truelove who mixes a filmic narrative with bygone showgirl panache to devastating effect. We’ll also be wowed by all new acts from Daisy Black, aerial artiste, razor blade swallower and spinner of flaming hoops, and Alex McAleer, the moustachioed mind reading maverick. Visitors to this night of glitter and glamour should dress to impress, and plan to dance til late to the vinyl stylings of Norwich’s own, DJ Earl Harlem. Teir last show sold out so get your tickets while you can!

24 - 27 JULY Laugh in the Park Comedy Festival Chapelfield Park

Feeling a bit low, chicken? Returning to Norwich for the fourth time, Laugh in the Park returns this July to wreck our sides and make it difficult to breathe. With 15 hilarious live acts over four days all set in a massive tent in Chapelfield Gardens, plus grub and booze from local suppliers, it’s becoming a real highlight of Norwich’s calendar. Top comedians this year include Rob Beckett, star of I’m a Celebrity…Get me out of here!, the ‘delightfully crude’ Kate Lucas, revolutionary and underground comic Paul Chowdhry, East End geezer/philosopher Jeff Innocent, Mike Gunn, self confessed pessimist, and a special surprise guest yet to be announced! Each night will feature 3 sets with compere’s Mark Dolan, John Mann and Sean Meo, who are regulars at the Red Card Comedy Club. Please note performances are only for over-18’s.
