THE PHILHARMONIC HOUSE OF DESIGN

MAKING MAGIC

by joel martens Family, friends, good music and

conversation, all set in a well-designed, tastefully-appointed property one can share, these are the things that help to round out a true home.

Getting the house is for many the easy part, what happens when one takes possession is the thing that causes many a homeowner to stumble. Paralysis sets in when it comes time to decide where to place furniture, what finishes to choose, or where to feature art pieces lovingly collected. For that matter, even choosing appropriate items for many, creates a complete homemaking conundrum. This, in part, is where the Philharmonic House of

Design hopes to offer assistance, if only in fantastic concepts and ideas shown within. This, coupled with the philanthropic goal of helping to fund the Philharmonic Society’s nationally recognized youth programs, is all a part of their 22nd annual Designer Showcase. Presenting this annual fundraising fete; the Phil-

harmonic Society of Orange County, long considered the area’s most recognized music society, with the world’s most acclaimed symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, performing organizations and artists. They are considered a catalyst for cultural and educational development throughout the region, and are the key resident company in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Each year a location is chosen and an army of interi-

or designers are given the opportunity to make their mark. This year’s home is located in none other than

nized music education programs target, yearly, nearly 150,000 Orange County students, start- ing in kindergarten and running through high school. Thousands of presentations are offered by professional musicians as well as trained do- cents at no charge to public and private schools in Orange County. The Committees of the Phil- harmonic are the Society’s principal fundraising and volunteer force. Together they create, fund and produce an extraordinary array of music education programs for children.

Whitlinger (Beth Whitlinger Interior Design), and Anne Michaelsen Yahn (Anne Michaelsen Design). The designer showcase is considered the primary

fundraiser for the Philharmonic’s Youth Music Pro- gram and every year draws a large and illustrious crowd. Though the glittering Premiere Night on Sat- urday, May 31 has passed, the home will remain open to public tours from Tuesday through Sunday, June 3 through June 29. And though the flavors of the opening gala have also passed, the home includes an on site café provided by Saltwater Catering. The site also sports a boutique featuring clothing, jewelry and home accessories, as well as delightful opportu- nity prizes. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see inside not just

one, but several unique designer’s minds, with a plethora of one-of-a-kind concepts. Who knows? Your design-dilemma solution could be waiting!
