Life! and Tequila!) takes place in the auditorium at the San Diego LGBT Community Center, 3909 Center Street on Saturday, June 28. Come celebrate the legendary artist, with hostess Francesca, as you dance to the Latin sounds of Manny Cepeda Orchestra and DJ La Voz. THE AMAZING HIGH HEEL RACE It’s time to get those Christian Louboutin’s,
Manolo’s and Jimmy Choo’s stilettos resoled and ready; for the run of their overpriced lives! Break in those wicked heels (careful of those dainty ankles though) and run with the rest of your heel-heightened friends, in the fourth annual run on Saturday, June 21 in celebra- tion of Hillcrest’s diversity and unity. The race snakes through the neighborhood with stops at local businesses to collect beautiful rainbow- colored pieces, though don’t be surprised if you have to “earn them” with a little task (don’t worry, they’re strictly PG). The run is a total in- vestment in enhancing the quality of life in San Diego’s most vibrant neighborhood; the Amaz- ing High Heel Race is a non-profit organization that benefits the Hillcrest Business Association and the Hillcrest Beautification Committee. To compete, be an event sponsor, or if your bunions can’t handle the pressure, to make a donation, go to

Sorry, you won’t be hearing the great Liza Minnelli crooning you this tune, but what you will hear, are the fantastic sounds of the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble as they present their Summer Cabaret Concert. Come to the fabulous Mississippi Room at the
historic Lafayette Hotel, 2223 El Cajon Boulevard in North Park on Friday, June 27 for Red, White and Blues: Songs of America, featuring showtunes from the stage and screen, jazz standards and even a bit o’ the blues. Highlighted during the night’s miscella- nies; a planned tribute to the great Billie Holiday and the sensational Andrews Sisters, with guest vocalists showcasing some of the evening’s medleys. Topping the night magic, the famous ballroom venue will be set cabaret-style, featuring no-host cocktails and complimentary hors d’oeuvres, which will be served at 7:30 p.m. with the concert starting at 8 p.m. For tickets and more information call 619.692.2077 or go to
hillcrestwindensemble.com.
