• Ascot Racecourse has announced that Michelin Star chef Tom Kerridge will headline its new, multi- million pound restaurant, On 5, during Royal
Ascot 2014. On 5 is set to be unveiled in its iconic Grandstand and will allow guests during the royal meeting to enjoy an unparalleled view across the racecourse alongside Kerridge’s modern take on British classics, with a sumptuous five-course luncheon and afternoon tea. 35,000 guests are expected to enjoy fine dining and it is the second successive year Kerridge will serve his innovative, quintessentially British menu at Royal Ascot, which takes place from June 17-21.
• Southern Communications has appointed Mathew Kirk as commercial director and shareholder of the business. Kirk has been the corporate development director of TalkTalk Telecom Group plc since 2009 and prior to that was mergers and acquisitions director for The Carphone Warehouse Group from 2004. At TalkTalk he was involved with the demerger from Carphone, led the acquisitions of OneTel, Tele2, AOL and Tiscali as well as over 20 transactions on behalf of the B2B division. Over the past three years, Kirk has been a board member of TalkTalk Business, a £425 million revenue division of TalkTalk, a member of the Group’s innovation committee and has led a number of key outsourcing projects.

• GCS Recruitment Specialists’ managing director, David Bloxham, has been shortlisted for the Institute of Directors (IoD) Young Director of the Year Award as part of the IoD’s London & South East awards. Bloxham is one of four finalists in this category and winners will be announced on June11. As well as being the managing director of GCS, Bloxham is also the president of the Reading Chamber of Commerce, a voluntary position which he has held since January 2013. Leading GCS' corporate social responsibility programme, he has recently completed the Brighton Marathon and last year ran four half marathons, as well as regularly providing employability workshops to schools across the Thames Valley.
• Accountants and business advisers James Cowper has strengthened its insolvency and business restructuring team with the appointment of new partner Julia Branson and has promoted Andy Cowie to its marketing and business development director. Branson joins the firm this month having for the past two years run her own consultancy business, Branson Restructuring, working with SME businesses experiencing financial and operational difficulties. She had previously led the restructuring and insolvency teams of PwC and then Deloitte in the Thames Valley. A licensed insolvency practitioner, Branson brings to the firm considerable experience and expertise in advising small and mid-market companies and their advisers at the first signs of distress, thereby maximising the prospects of saving the business and jobs. She has worked extensively in the retail, real estate, hotels and
leisure, agribusiness and the care home sectors. Branson sits on the Southern Region Council of R3, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals, and has been closely involved in the development of a sub-group for members of R3 in the Thames Valley. Andy Cowie joined James Cowper in 2009 from Tenon. He leads a team of three and is responsible for driving forward the firm’s marketing and business development strategy that has seen the firm grow year on year despite the unfavorable economic climate, win multiple awards and open new offices in London and at Harwell. Cowie said: “I am delighted with the promotion to director. • SIRE Technology has appointed Richard Standley to the newly created role of senior technical consultant. This is the latest appointment for the company which is establishing itself as a recognised provider of viable IT solutions that provide both flexibility and continuity for businesses.. At SIRE, Standley's role will involve assisting clients with the migration of data and making the transition from legacy to open systems as well as some development work. Prior to joining SIRE, he had spent over 20 years with one of the country's top travel companies where his final role was that of software development manager. He was
heavily involved in managing an EFT system which involved the setup and support of systems to allow online authorisation of credit/debit cards and subsequent delivery of funds into the merchant's bank.
