held a conference on the analysis of a legisla- tion which aims to eliminate domestic violence against women in Turkey. Academics, lawyers and civil society activists gathered at this event to discuss this legislation and relevant issues.


Members of the Middle East Commission host- ed a panel titled “International Law and Syria” on March 19th. Panelists dealt with three topics: re- cent political issues, intervention in Syria and the responsibility to protect doctrine and the possible role of the International Criminal Court in Syria.


A very significant step in rejuvenating our Chap- ter was publishing ILS ILSA’s and Istanbul Law School’s only student law journal Opinio Iuris, af- ter 8 years. Many members contributed to this journal by submitting and editing articles on vari-


ous international law issues. Opinio Iuris will be published early April 2014.


As members become involved in ILSA, their in- terest grew in joining moot court competitions. Therefore, we wanted to familiarize them with mooting and gave a presentation on various moot court competitions, mainly the Jessup. Ex- perienced mooters promoted mooting and spoke about the advantages and the possible disadvan- tages of engaging in a moot court competition.


On March 25th, we hosted the 10th Annual Euro- pean Union and Human Rights Day, our biggest event of the year. The theme of the conference was “Refugees and Asylum” as it is a topical le- gal issue both in Turkey and in the world. Istan- bul University and Leiden University Law School
