ith the White & Case International Rounds of the 55th Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition having come


to a close in April in Washington, DC, ILSA would like to congratulate all the teams that competed in this year’s Jessup Competition. ILSA would also like to extend its gratitude to all the sponsors, judges, volunteers, and other organizations that helped make this year’s competition a success.

This issue of the ILSA Quarterly is dedicated to the Jessup Competition, and recounts the com- petition results, and additionally includes photos and a summary of the affair. The Jessup issue of the Quarterly also features an interview with a former Jessup competitor, Jesse Clarke, where Clarke details the effect Jessup has had on his career as a lawyer for some of the world’s most prestigious international organizations.


ILSA also presented a panel in April at the Ameri- can Society of International Law’s (ASIL) Annual Meeting, titled “Emerging Trends and Challenges in International Legal Education.” The panelists

The International Law Students Association (ILSA) is a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides students with opportunities to study, research, and network in the international legal arena. The organization’s activities include academic conferences, publications, the global coordination of student organizations, and the administration of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. ILSA seeks to encourage communication and cooperation among students and lawyers internationally; to contribute to legal education; to promote social responsibility in the field of law; to increase op- portunities for students to learn about other cultures and legal systems worldwide; and to publicize educational and career opportunities in international law. The ILSA Quarterly is an academic magazine that features articles written by students, scholars and practitioners concerning timely issues of international law and related topics, as well as information on ILSA projects, study abroad programs, LL.M. programs and career opportunities in the field of international law. It is published four times during the academic year.

discussed some of the methodologies and chal- lenges related not only to teaching international law in various jurisdictions, but also explored the challenges related to producing both quality inter- national law professionals and legal scholarship in a world that communicates in different languages and cultures.


ILSA looks forward to partnering with the Interna- tional Bar Association (IBA) for the second time for the IBA-ILSA Conference in London from Sep- tember 5-6, 2014. This conference will provide students from around the world with an opportu- nity to network, and enjoy a large variety of pan- els.
