WELL HEREWE GO AGAIN… PRIDE SEASON HAS BEGUN

it’s the first in the California Pride series and is one of my favorites. Every year there is the usual list of wonderful performers and this year is no

exception, Kelly Rowland is a part of the fabulous lineup as well as one of our very own country gals, Chely Wright. And yes, I do like country music (I can just hear all of the air being sucked out of your rooms right now). Coming out as she did, in the environment in which she worked, took courage and I will always admire her for that. I had the chance to chat with one of the star DJs for the weekend party known as

Poseidon. DJ Wayne G was a hoot and that accent was sexy (though transcribing it, not so much). A recent transplant to San Diego, he talked about his move to SoCal and his upcoming performances. We just heard him at the White party T Dance in what was, I am told, a phenomenal afternoon event. So sorry to have missed it! You’ll see him at Poseidon on the Queen Mary and of course in San Diego at the

Zoo Party for Pride. There is a lot more to this guy and his sojourn onto the stage with Kinky Boots andJerry Springer; The Opera prove it. This year I wanted to take a different tack on what pride actually means, so I spent

some time looking into things we ought to be proud of. History is a vital part of what makes us who we are and the places in which that history takes place are important. Just like the concept of preserving the hallowed grounds of the buildings and places that made our country what it is today. So should we consider saving those that are significant to our movement. I spent a few short days researching some of those places and was surprised by not

only what I found, but also by the fact that so few of the significant properties had been destroyed. Even more surprising was that so few have been protected. We have a history worth documenting, and I for one am going to jump on the preserva- tion bandwagon. Take a look at your local LGBT archive organization for ways to participate, it’s of vital importance to save what we can. Can you imagine not having the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Indepen- dence or Independence Hall in which both were scribed? Look forward and be proud; but don’t forget to look back and appreciate the rungs

that you ascended to get here. Onward and upward!
