Hazardous Waste Collection T


he Hudson County Improvement Authority hazardous collection program helps residents rid their homes of hazardous waste. Cleaners, corrosives, gasoline, pesticides, herbicides, antifreeze, fire extinguishers, oil-based paints, solvents and thinners and more will be accepted. Latex paint, alkaline batteries, cell phones and appliances will not be accepted.


The Jersey City Incinerator Authority, 501 Route 440, and


Kearny DPW, 357 Bergen Avenue, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 3. Bayonne Norton Paints, 148 East 5th Street, and North Bergen MUA, 6200 Tonnelle Avenue, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 18.

Jersey City Health Screening F


ree screenings and information on blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory and body mass index (BMI) will be conducted by Palisades Medical Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 3, at Our Lady of Sorrows, in Jersey City.. Throughout the year, Palisades staff takes an active role in our local communities by partnering with North Hudson Community Action Corporation, Christ Hospital School of Nursing and Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern NJ to provide these free health screenings and education programs.

DOULA! followed by refreshments and a Q&A session with local childbirth doulas from 2 to 4 p.m., May 3, at Grace Lutheran Church. A childbirth doula is a trained labor companion. Her job is to provide women with information to make good decisions and to non-judgmentally stand by them.


BirthGraceNJ offers a comfortable space in a non-hospital setting where moms and partners can gather for childbirth education classes, special events and resource sharing.
