World Parkinson’s Day on Friday 11th April A warm welcome and a tulip

JALON VALLEY HELP has formed a new Parkinson’s Positive Living Group. Meeting on the second Friday of each month. Our next meeting coincides with World Parkinson’s Day April 11th A warm welcome awaits for those with the condition and their carers/partners. Most people know of Parkinsons' Disease (many of us have friends or relatives with the syndrome). However many are unaware of the diversity of its symptoms. People with Parkinson's don't have enough of a chemical called dopamine because specifi c nerve cells inside their brain have died. It is not known why these cells die, but without dopamine people fi nd their movements become slower taking longer to do everyday activities, such as eating, dressing, using a phone or computer. Other issues, such as tiredness, pain, depression and constipation, can impact their day-to-day lives. Our informal get together aims to discover what could be on offer or to contribute to how this group could support those with the condition.

Venue: Casa Ánimo in C/ Dels Barons de Ruiz de Lihori. 11, Alcalali. After that we'll meet on the second Friday of each month, same time and place. For more information contact: Christopher Swann on 688 883 127 or email on parkinsonsjvh@gmail.com

And the lovely red tulip? This was developed by a Dutch horticulturist in 1981 in memory of Dr James Parkinson, who fi rst described the condition almost 200 years ago. It is now the logo of many Parkinson's associations throughout the world.
