ELYAR FOX EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW CATHY MACLEOD
Elyar Fox burst onto the music scene this year with his debut single “Do it All Over Again” which rocketed to number five in the charts. The eighteen year old singer, songwriter and musician from London first started attracting attention when he was only sixteen years old, after taking a gap year with his band ‘Just Me Again’. They played their first gig at The Garage in Islington in 2009 and toured with You Me At Six. He recently went solo, signing his own record deal and becoming a teen sensation overnight. He recently toured with Union J after playing a free gig with them at Westfield shopping centre.
When did you realise that playing music was what you wanted to do? I realised when I was six. I got my first two albums by Nirvana and Good Charlotte and they made me want to learn the guitar. I just knew.
Congratulations on your debut single “Do it All Over Again” charting at number 5. Did you expect the record to do so well? I honestly didn’t. I had no idea it would do so well. It was just one of those things, you can never predict what will do well in the charts and what won’t. I was so excited when I found out.
How did you celebrate? I don’t actually remember. Which is probably a good sign.
Your second record “A Billion Girls” was played on Capital this morning. It was. Did you hear it? I didn’t, I was still asleep. How could you?! I’m so sorry. How is the record different from your last? I’m really excited about the release. This one is different; it’s more rocky, which takes me back to my roots. It shows the fans a different side to the album. Plus I get to shoot the video in LA next week, which I’m not complaining about.
You already have a massive fan base with the Foxers. How important is it for you to stay con- nected with your fans? It’s so important, especially with Twitter and social media, it gives you the chance to show the fans that you’re there as much as they’re there for you. I have so much in common with my fans, it’s a re- lationship really. There’s a lot of passion between myself and the Foxers.
Have you experienced any crazy fans? Yes! Even the crazy ones who try and get in my car or break into my house are super nice.
Can you tell me a little about your TWEETNGREET around Europe?
