LEGAL EAGLES HORNSEA OFFSHORE WINDFARM


Shepherd and Wedderburn (S+W) advise SMart Wind, a joint venture between Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures (an entity owned by Siemens Financial Services), on their development of the 4GW Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm.


SUPPORT


Their role is to support the SMart Wind team in all work required for securing consents for the development of projects within the Zone. S+W advise on consenting, regulation, grid connection, land related consents and wayleaves, contracts and corporate governance issues in respect of the specific windfarm projects being developed within the Zone.


SECONDMENT Susan Fergusson, an assistant solicitor at S+W, has been seconded on a part time basis to SMart Wind for almost three years. Susan has supported SMart Wind in many of these areas, but primarily in relation to drafting and negotiating contracts for the procurement of environmental and geoscience survey services and in respect of the installation, operation and


management of the Hornsea met mast, advising on regulatory and grid connection issues and providing all aspects of company secretarial support to the various project companies set up to develop the specific wind farm projects.

INTEGRATION


Susan is very proud of being the only solicitor at S+W to have completed the STCW 95 personal survival techniques programme, a requirement of attending the SMart Wind team away day last September, which was hosted by DONG Energy (who have acquired a stake in the first project in the Zone).


Susan was also invited to attend the away day as one of only two non-Mainstream or Siemens members of the SMart Wind team, the other being the Crown Estate’s representative for the Hornsea Zone.
