LUBRICANTS FACILITIES HAPPY 50TH!

In 2012 the company celebrated its 50th anniversary and can proudly announce that it remains a family run company. In fact Dr W Dieter who founded the company still arrives at the Headquarters in Sulzbach/ Saar, Germany at 7.00am every day!

KEEPING AHEAD OF THE GAME With the ever-evolving technology of the wind sector it is imperative that the company stays ahead of the game. Ged goes on to say that Hydac are fortunate to be able to supply 90% of the OEM’s in the world, between the parent company and their subsidiaries, which is quite an accolade, however in the UK there are few wind turbine manufacturers currently, so there is huge potential. Hydac realise the importance of responding to customer demand and the need for efficient aftercare, of which they pride themselves.

The extensive facilities offered at their headquarters allow for the analysis and testing of every single hydraulic and lubrication oil on the market, and its suitability for gearboxes and systems. There is a huge market for gearboxes, especially larger gearboxes and currently there are only a few of these in operation.

IN-PLANT TECHNOLOGY When turbines are acquired they are assessed with a SCADA (System Communication and Data Acquisition) which allows full access to the data and workings of the turbines, ie is it turning correctly at the optimum temperature thus giving a full profile of the turbine? However this does not allow for data (condition monitoring) or cleanliness of the gearbox which can lead to failures – Hydac have the ability to provide products which will alert to any malfunctions and spikes of particles in the ‘life blood’ and alarm the operator prior to a problems arising. The potential to add these is currently trialling in the UK.

THE FUTURE

The company plans to expand their engineering support and technology, certainly in their Head Office in Oxfordshire.

Ged mentioned HMI (Human Machine Interface). They have a dedicated electronic software department which is working on touch screens which allows the recording of temperature/pressure and flow, recording all processes. Should an abnormality appear then this could be voice activated or dealt with remotely on screen – all very ‘Mission Impossible!’

IN SHORT...

The sheer enthusiasm was noticeably in abundance when I spoke with Ged, tinged with pride to be part of a successful and innovative and forward thinking company.
