’m planning an addition to my home this spring, expanding the master bedroom and bath, which got me thinking about toxins and off-gassing from floor- ing, paint and other items. Lucky me that this month, “Green Flooring,” by Brita Belli has arrived in my in- box! There are so many options available today that offer low off-gassing of volatile organic compounds (VOC), as well as greener options, which is just plain good for our planet. There are also many low-VOC paint options out there, such as Natura, by Benjamin Moore, and Harmony, by Sherwin Williams. If you’re interested in more information about selecting low to zero VOC paints, check out our website at nahudson.com and simply click on the green living tab and look for the article; “Breathe Easy-its Green Paint.” VOC’s have been shown to cause nausea and eye and throat irritations, as well as exac- erbate asthma.

I’m also really excited to share “Functional Medicine,” by Kathleen Barnes. As many of you know, I was diagnosed with IBS more than 10 years ago and struggled for many years. I worked with my traditional health practitioners and found no relief; only medication and unanswered questions. IBS is what started my personal journey to “alternative” or “functional” medicine. There had to be an answer to my “syndrome”. A young relatively healthy person just doesn’t have all these digestive disorders for no reason. Together with my naturopath, we changed my diet, eliminated my meds that provided no relief to begin with and evaluated my hormone levels, vitamin deficiencies and more. I was feeling great in only a few short weeks. My diet was making me sick, and I thought I was eating healthy!

I had so much to learn about proper nutrition. Mark Hyman, M.D., is fea- tured in this article and is one of my favorite authors and bloggers. His YouTube channel is always full of great information. Check it out if you are hungry for more information about wellness.
