12 Maidstone Borough Council

Sharon Brown is Bereavement Services Development Manager for Maidstone Borough Council, responsible for Vinters Park Crematorium and the Sutton Road Maidstone Cemetery.

Workingfor you What does your job involve?

My job touches on all parts of Bereavement Services, from cremations to burials, to development of the service.

What attracted you to the job?

I have worked in both Public and Private sector through my career, but having tried both, I know I am a Public Servant. I strive to do all I can to give the best service to all that I meet, to try and help and support those who visit us and try to accommodate people’s requirements so they can have the funeral of their choice. I feel very privileged to be able to work in this environment and hope that the services we provide are helpful to those we meet.

What do you like most about your job?

I like all of my job — there isn’t a bit I would change — it is varied and rewarding. It can be emotionally draining at times, but that is outweighed by the lovely people I get to meet every day.

What does customer service mean to you?

I like to treat people the way I would like to be treated. Customer Service is about giving that customer your full attention, listening and hopefully coming to a successful conclusion and ultimately that customer leaves in a positive frame of mind.
