Mote Park – UK’s third favourite park!

Mote Park won the bronze award at this year’s Green Flag People’s Choice Awards, recognising it as one of the nation’s favourite parks! The Awards, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, give the public the chance to vote for their favourite park in the UK from those awarded Green Flags over the year for their exceptionally high standards, excellent facilities and strong community involvement. A record breaking 1,448 parks and green spaces this year received a Green Flag Award this year, making Mote Park’s achievement even more impressive! Thank you to everyone who voted, and to our wonderful volunteers who work so hard with our Parks team to make the park such a fantastic asset to Maidstone.

Maidstone Market at Lockmeadow is now on Facebook – search for “Maidstone Market” for news, offers and special events.

Play areas Maidstone council will be investing £1.75 million in local play areas over the next 18 months. A new draft strategy identifies 85 play areas for investment so that most residents will be a short walk away from good quality, well- maintained and accessible play equipment.

The proposals could see some play areas transferred to local community groups or returned to green spaces if the play equipment is not wanted.

Kent based sculptor Jason Mulligan is currently producing four stone sculptures for permanent display within Cobtree Manor Park. The public art commission was an open submission competition devised by Maidstone Borough Council, working in partnership with the Cobtree Estate Committee. The vision and concept is to create a sculpture trail around the newly regenerated park with an emphasis on encouraging visitors to explore the extent of the park while also celebrating its past history as Maidstone zoo. You can follow Jason’s progress online at www.thecobtreesculpture.blogspot.co.uk where there will be regular updates detailing the various stages from fabrication and production to the final installation.

MOTE PARK PHOTO COMPETITION

Thank you to the hundreds of Maidstone residents who entered the first Mote Park photo competition in 2013 and who ensured an exceptionally high standard of entries. The winner, chosen by a panel of judges, was Marilyn Simpson who received a £250 gift voucher kindly donated by the Mall Chequers Shopping Centre. We are pleased to announce that the photo competition will return in 2014, so if you love Mote Park and you’re handy with a camera then why not give it a go!
