Fellow Truckers,
What a great convention we had in St. George, Utah on May 8-10, 2013. The weather was excellent and we had a record number of vendor booths, trucks and trailers displayed. It made a great atmosphere to get together and talk to old friends and make new ones.
I would like to thank all of the vendors for their continued support of the convention and to the Utah Trucking Association in everything that we do. If we did not have their support we would not be able to have such great environment to showcase the trucks the trailers and all of the other supporting groups for this industry.
Rick, Sasha and Julie stepped right in and made things happen for their first time. Terry as always just kept things humming right along not missing a beat. Duane Braegger and the convention committee, Dale Ipson and the silent auction committee all did an outstanding job. I would also like to thank the Clasby family, Martha Mills and her daughter for their help behind the scenes.
Our theme for 2013 was “Look At Us Then, Look At Us Now” and it really does say a lot about how the transportation industry is growing and improving. Look at how the aerodynamics for the trucks and trailers has changed just in the last 5 years. Also, tire technology for longevity has increase and we are becoming more fuel efficient.

The new UTA Office will be completed sometime in mid-July. This will give all of us something to be proud of, it will be a land mark for years to come and stand as a beacon for the transportation industry.
This building will be like our own Transportation University where we can go to learn, teach and grow.
Our goal is to be debt free, so if you can find a way to help donate that would be great.

One challenge that I asked everyone to do at convention was to go out into your community get involved to help educate folks about transportation. We need to create an environment that people want to work in. We need drivers, mechanics, warehouse and office folks, to fill the positions that will become available. Utah population is expected to double in the next 15 to 20 years.
Once or twice a year go to a school, take a truck and trailer let the kids get in it, teach them about blind spots, following distances, stopping distances. Get a Boy Scout Troop and teach them the Transportation Merit Badge. I have done many of these and I take everyone out in our main yard so they all get to drive the truck in the 1st three gears. They love it, will they become drivers I don’t know, but they will be thinking about it. It is up to us to make a positive impact on our communities.
Fuel now is one of our biggest expenses, look at all time that is spent training our drivers, mechanics about idle time, cruise control, speed to get the best MPG we can achieve. Look at the LNG and CNG fuel market is taking off with the motor technology and infrastructure for fueling our equipment.
