He was already in his late seventies but looked younger and fit. In our phone conversations, I thought I would try to lift his spirits by saying how clever they were to escape the cold winters of the north. The answer was always, “OK. You know I love “schwimming” and the warm weather feels so “gut.” But, how I miss those guys at the auto shop!— Und, the darling grandkid- dies are too busy.”

Uncle Joe sort of slipped into the circle of men, took one look at the complex innards and asked if he could reach in to adjust the item he spotted. Uncle Joe had reconnected with not only some shining examples of great men who work extremely hard but also a group who valued each other. His new pals then confessed that not one of them liked to cook. I still recall the joy in Uncle Joe’s voice when he laughingly told me during one of our delightful phone calls that he thought my late folks would have been so proud of him. He decided he would serve as their volun- teer “Cookie.” That lovely group of men from all sorts of backgrounds only bick- ered about which new dish was their favorite: stuffed peppers, goulash, or rich desserts! Daily, Uncle Joe cooked and ate with them until he was 96! -–No won- der my auntie in Yonkers feels strong at 94. Let 2014 be as shiny as a

Most people that are allergic to cow milk products and some who are lactose intolerant can use goat and sheep milk products. The lac- tose or protein in the milk is what usually causes the allergic reac- tion or intolerance.
