Sonoma County Announcements PEP HOUSING WINS 2013 ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP AWARD


PETALUMA, CA. ~ Governor Brown announced that PEP Housing of Petaluma, CA, has won the 2013 Governor’s Award for “Enhanced Environmental and Economic Leadership.” The award recognizes PEP Housing’s sustained commit- ment to utilizing the latest in green building technology and energy conserving systems in its affordable senior housing developments that “conserve California’s precious resourc- es, protect and enhance our environment and/or strengthen the economy.” The Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) is California's highest and most prestigious environ- mental honor.

1993, the award program is administered by the California Environmental Protection Agency and the Natural Resources Agency in col- laboration with the State and Consumer Services Agency, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.


PEP Housing is one of only


13 award recipients to receive the award which was pre- sented at a reception held in Sacramento. It is the second time PEP Housing has won the award. In 2009 the organiza- tion received the Sustainable

PEP: Founded in 1978 by a group of clergy and citizens concerned about the plight of seniors living in substandard conditions, PEP Housing has developed and now manages 14 properties with 331 apart- ments accommodating nearly 350 low-income seniors. PEP Housing properties are of the


highest design and construc- tion standards and incorpo- rate innovative “green” build- ing practices and Universal Design characteristics. Kellgren Senior Apartments, a new 50 unit development, is scheduled to open in March and several others are under construction or in the plan- ning stages.
