REGIONAL INTEREST

of excellence equal to that of other WFDF Championship events. Thank you to World Flying Disc Federation for allowing our Club the opportunity to bring the world’s best to our own backyard. Thank you to our many partners and volunteers. And of course, thank you to the many athletes, coaches, managers, families and fans who helped make the 2013 U23 Championships so memorable. We hope to see you at the next big Toronto Ultimate Club event!

Quebec > Nicolas Vanasse

As the new general manager of the Federation Québécoise d’Ultimate, I didn’t expect so many great things to be going on in the province of Quebec. With the holiday time approaching, it’s often the time were people make a year review. I’ll have the same approach in this article, by highlighting the year of the Quebec Ultimate scene.

1. New Bylaws

I was hired in March and plenty of challenges were already waiting for me. The biggest was our bylaw reform. We did change the structure of the PSO in order to give the fundamental power to the league and our members, but the administration of the corporation and the executives are completely free of political influence or direct implication of the league. They have enough work as it is!

2. The performance of the Quebec teams in

summer 2013 First off, Odyssée won the US Open against high-level international competition, which was quite amazing. It was really helpful for the promotion of Ultimate, because RDS television station (TSN francophone sport station) bought the whole event from ESPN and rebroadcasted the US Open games many times.

They even replayed some of the USA ultimate college championships.

Then, CUC 2013. Vintage won the first-ever gold medal in the women’s masters division. The well- earned third position of Mephisto (Open), and a final appearance for QUB (Women) and NSOM (Master) are all important achievements as well. But above all, I think that Quebec teams winning 5 out of 7 spirits award (Hydro, Aera, Mephisto, NSOM, Vintage) tell us that we play, coach and develop the sport the way it’s suppose to be.

3. FQU’s strategic reflection and development

plan We’ve been working on a development plan from July 2013 and hope to have it finished by March 2014. Our strategic plans include the PSO, the affiliated leagues, volunteers, and all the members of Quebec Ultimate. We wanted to make sure that the development plan was born from the strategic reflection and give the same direction line for the promotion of Ultimate across the province. It’s a big job, it takes lots of time, but I can guarantee that our 2014-2017 development plan will bring new people to the game and develop Ultimate in Quebec.
