everyone started playing 5v5. The level of play was competitive and intense and there were smiles constantly splashed across all 100 faces that came out to support our friend Trevor.

Half-way through the day we broke for lunch but not before there were heartfelt speeches from the UVic Ultimate Club’s ex-president Kevin Underhill and by Trevor’s sister, Robin Ashwell. The UVic Ultimate Club made a massive feast for the hungry athletes and spectators to enjoy while sitting on the grass reminiscing about the skies, bids, and bloopers of earlier.

Trashwell Cup raises $6300 >Danie Proby

University of Victoria player, Trevor Ashwell (Trashwell) is one of the most talented people I’ve ever had the pleasure in spending time with. He is athletic, charming, sweet and people always want to be around him. Sadly, Trevor was in a tragic swimming accident on June 2 2013. He dove into shallow water and hit his head on the bottom, resulting in severe damage to his spinal cord. Luckily the friends he was with performed CPR, saving his life and preventing brain injury. He now faces the immense challenge of moving through the rest of his life as a quadriplegic.

The UVic Ultimate Club planned an event to help raise money and to show their support to Trevor. They hosted an Ultimate tournament at UVic where they invited anybody who wanted to come. Ultimate media outlets got on board and shared the event and people from all over the world donated to the cause. The support was overwhelming. Members of BYU sent donations as well as people as far away at Utah, New York and even Austria.

The weather could not have been better on that sunny Saturday in October. The grass was lush and green and our fair-haired friends began to work on their sunburns in their newly acquired Trashwell Cup reversible jerseys. The music was bumping and the babysitting service was in full-force so it was time for the games to begin. We split up the teams into light and dark and

After lunch the play resumed right where it left off. Mairin Berezan, Trevor’s girlfriend and a teammate of mine, got ahold of Trevor on Skype and he was able to watch some of the action himself. After another hour or so of play, everyone was brought in for a group photo (Trevor is on Skype in the photo) and to announce the total amount donated by everyone that day.

The one day event raised $6300 for Trevor Ashwell, an amazing amount, but still only a fraction of the costs which lay ahead for Trevor. People can still donate to Trevor. The name of the trust is: The Ashwell Family in Trust for Trevor Ashwell and the ID# is 751215. There are two ways to donate:

1) In person at any of the Coastal Community Credit Union Branches (there are 21 branches on Vancouver Island, you can find the closest one to you here: https://www.cccu.ca/Personal/ToolsAndCalculators/ FindBranchATM/)

2) By Mail to the Comox Community Branch, attention to Maria Demers: 202 - 1797 Comox Avenue, Comox, BC, V9M 3L9. You can donate using cash, or a cheque
