uk4u Thanks! Take on its first employee!

uk4u provides a little Christmas cheer to UK Armed Forces overseas every year by ensuring that all Servicemen and women who are serving away at Christmas receive a box, whether they are in the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force, and wherever they are in the world.

A

ffectionately known as the ‘Square Stocking’ these boxes are a gift from the nation, to all those serving

in the UK Armed Forces overseas away from their families and loved ones on Christmas Day.

Last year, thanks entirely to generous donations from members of the public and sponsors, uk4u Thanks! was able to send over 22,000 Christmas gift boxes to UK Armed Forces personnel on duty overseas or in hospital over Christmas.

And as well as the Christmas boxes uk4u have now welcomed the new opportunity

to meet the MoD’s call to provide fleece blankets. These are being used to supplement the aeromed comfort enhanced pack given to wounded Service personnel being airlifted back to the UK for medical treatment. The blankets are similar to those provided by civilian airlines on long haul flights and are designed to keep patients warm and comfortable during the flight back to the UK.

uk4u is similarly providing beach towels for personnel as they arrive in Cyprus for decompression after the end of their long and intensive operational tour.

The success of uk4u is credit to the passion and commitment of its four Trustees, all of whom have close links with the services, having either served themselves or been a service spouse. They continue to build much valued relationships with sponsors and are most grateful for donations from supporters.

A successful LIBOR fund bid to fund the role of a fundraising and projects manager has

allowed the charity to take on Sarah Clewes. Sarah, who is ex-Service herself will ensure

that uk4u can continue to provide Christmas boxes as well as scope new projects in order to make a real difference to the lives of Service personnel.

Brigadier David Martin CBE, Chairman of uk4u said:

“We are delighted that Sarah has joined the team. She brings with her experience as a charity events and fundraising manager and having served in the Royal Navy for over 20 years, she is a great fit for this new role”.
