St. Louis, Mo. May 20, the chapter concluded its 2012– 13 season with the annual banquet andmembers’ recital atTrinityPresbyterianChurch, University City. Dean Wil- liam Wade recognized mem- bers of the 2015 Region VI Convention steering commit- tee in attendance and in- stalled the newly elected ex- ecutive committee, Class of 2016: Dawn Riske, Suzanne Manelli, and Mark Scholtz, with Rene Zajner serving as member at large. The mem- bers’ recital provided a di- verse sampling that included works by Buxtehude, Men- delssohn, Smart, Rheinber- ger, Couperin, and an origi- nal composition by Andrew Peters on the hymn tune “Bunessan,” performed by the composer. William Ait- ken, the organist at Trinity from 1968 to 1984 who was actively involved in the se- lection and design of the 1970 Casavant organ, con- cluded the program with an improvisation on a submitted theme. REGION VII—SOUTHWEST Central Arkansas. May 24, the dinner meeting, held at Christ Episcopal Church in Little Rock (Steve Bullock, host organist-choirmaster) and led by Dean Betty Cohen, was preceded by a gathering around the punchbowl. The program was a recital played by Scott Dettra. It was spon- sored by James Graham to benefit the Pediatric Injury Prevention Center at Arkan- sas Children’s Hospital. Det- tra is director of music at the Episcopal Church of the In- carnation in Dallas, Tex. He was a former organist and as- sociate director of music at Washington National Cathe- dral. He holds two degrees from Westminster Choir Col- lege and has studied jazz pi- ano at the Manhattan School of Music. Albuquerque, N.Mex. May 11, a workshop titled “Music for Manuals” was held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Al- buquerque (Frederick Frahm,


host organist). Jane Smith discussed French Baroque or- gan music, Jerry Nelson spoke on English organ mu- sic, and Frahm discussed chorale preludes by Tele- mann. Musical examples were played, and extensive information sheets were pro- vided.Acoffeehour followed. —CraigSmith


Oklahoma City, Okla. Jan. 4, the chapter’s annual Epi- phany party was held at the home of hosts James Bussell and Phillip Tolbert. A ca- tered dinner, consumedamid lavish Christmas decora- tions, was followed by the ex- change of white-elephant gifts. Feb. 24, a members’ recital was held at Southern Nazarene University (Tim Marek, host). The instrument used was the school’s 1979 three-manual and pedal, 45- rank Schlicker organ, which had been recently renovated by the Bedient Pipe Organ Company. Performers Edwin P. Day, Chris Ganza, Eliza- beth Harrison, Tim Marek, and Silviya Mateva played works by Buxtehude, Böhm, J.S. Bach, Dupré, Hindemith, and Hal Hopson. March 17, the chapter sponsored Ken Cowan in recital at Chapel HillUnitedMethodistChurch (Ellen Jackson, host). The program included works by J.S. Bach, Saint-Saëns, Wi- dor, Reger, John Ireland, George Thalben-Ball, Robert Hebble, and Rachel Laurin. May 3, the season’s finale took place at Christ the King Church (Edwin Day, host). Members enjoyed a catered dinner, and Dean Elizabeth Harrison and Sub-dean Ed- win Day gave an overview of next year’s events, followed by the election of officers for 2013–14. —AntoneGodding


Southern Plains, Okla. Jan. 26, the chapter hosted a “Ped- als, Pipes & Pizza” event at Catlett Music Center at the University of Oklahoma. Twenty-six students from the Oklahoma City and Norman area attended. Activities in- cluded explanations of the various types of organ pipes, demonstrations of the Möller and Fisk organs, a silent film accompanied by John Schwandt, and opportunities for the students to play both organs and all of the school’s practice instruments.
