April 2, chapter members went on an organ crawl to Boardwalk Hall (formerly Convention Hall) in Atlantic City, making visits to the great Midmir- Losh organ in the main hall and the Kimball theater organ in the ballroom. The tour, ar- ranged by member David Rhody, was led by Harry Bel- lengy, tour director of the hall. The seven-manual Mid- mer-Losh is known as the largest organ in the world. Under restoration, most of it is not operating at this time. However, the pipe chambers, whichare filledwiththe origi- nal pipework, are accessible. nual end-of-the-year banquet and election of officers took place at Mercersburg Acad- emy. The meeting was held jointly with the Cumberland Valley Chapter (Md.). Fol- lowing an elegant dinner served by the Mercersburg Academy staff to nearly 40 members and guests, a pro- gram was presented in the Academy chapel by organists from both chapters com- bining their talents with sev- eral instrumentalists. As the group made its way to the chapel, Jim Brinson, Acad- emy organist-carillonneur, played the carillon. Other participants in the “Organ Plus” program that followed were: from Cumberland Val- ley Chapter, Mark King, or- ganist, with Stephen Pastena, French horn; Jermaine Cain, organ solo; Jonathan Giblin, organist, with David Loy, pi- ano; from Chambersburg Chapter, Carolyn Kerlin, or- ganist, with Patty Hall, vio- loncello; Kyunghee Reed, or- gan solo; and Luke Staisiu- nas, organ solo. Erie, Pa. March 15, chapter members met at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church for an anthem-reading ses- sion centered on spirituals. Dean Edwina Gesler ex- plained how the nine-rank Nyack organ from New Jersey was removed and reassem- bled by the Tellers Organ Company in 1974 for the modest price of $6,000. Then, members Becky Borthwick- Aiken, Jo Critchfield, Edwina Gesler, Marjorie Hines, Sue Mohnkern, Patrick Bier, and William Witherup presented various arrangements of spir- ituals. Also, several collec- tions of spirituals were on display for browsing. —KathrineSwanson
Harrisburg, Pa. April 20, Robert Lau conducted a workshop titled “Anthems and Contemporary Hymns at the Organ” at St. John’s Lu- theran Church in Shiremans- town (Tom Notestine, host musician). Breakfast refresh- ments were arranged by hos- pitality chair Karen Appel. Noting that some contempo- rary hymns have a piano- style accompaniment ill- suited to performance on the organ, Lau offered several solutions.

Lehigh Valley, Pa. May 10, members and friends of the chapter met for the chapter’s annual young artist recital, banquet, and annual meeting at Christ Lutheran Church in Allentown (Michael Krentz, host musician). The recital was performed by Benjamin Sheen. Sheen graduated from Oxford University with first- class honors in 2011, and has recently completed his mas- ter’s degree at the Juilliard School as a student of Paul Ja- cobs. Following the recital, the chapter awarded ten or- gan lessons and a student membership to Lucy Kitch- Peck, winner of the chapter’s annual student competition.
