BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH Participate in Paint the Parkway Pink 5K Event on Oct. 19

ctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Stone Oak community invites everyone


to raise funds for breast cancer research by participating in the Paint the Parkway Pink 5K Run and Family Walk on Oct. 19.


Race entry fees include a donation to Women


in Medicine and Law for the Cure research and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure research grant. Participants should meet at the North Central Baptist Hospital parking lot from 7-8:30 a.m. for registration, and the race begins at 8 a.m. at Reagan High School. All participants receive a free T-shirt and awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group. A post-race health fair will highlight local health-conscious businesses and


activities such as face painting, dancing, bouncy houses and games will be available throughout the morning. Strollers and pets are welcome!

Great Pumpkin Run on Oct. 12 Family Friendly Event Benefits St. PJ’s Children’s Home


ut on your running shoes and Halloween costume and join St. PJ's Children's Home for the 2013 Great Pumpkin Run on Saturday, Oct. 12. Packet pick-up is available on Oct. 11 at Magnolia


Pancake Haus from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and St. PJ's Children's Home from 4-6 p.m. Registration for the 5K run/walk and kids 1 mile fun walk starts at 7 a.m. on Oct. 12 with the race to follow at 8 a.m. Participants will enjoy a pancake breakfast at Magnolia Pancake Haus directly after the race (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.). Family games and activities are also on schedule for race participants. Proceeds benefit St. PJ's Children's Home and supports their mission


to serve the needs of children and families who have a history of abuse and neglect. Through a safe, nurturing community, St. PJ's provides opportunities and programs to children that help foster healthy, happy lives from infancy to adulthood.

oga really is for every body, curves and all. That’s one of the reasons local “Curvy Yogi” Joy Bernstein is offering a Curvy Yoga Workshop from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Two Hearts Yoga on McCullough Avenue. “This workshop is for those


who never thought yoga was an option,” Bernstein says. “Yoga loves every body!” The two-hour workshop will provide participants the tools and guidance to learn about their body without the intimidation of being in a regular yoga class. The focus is creating a healthy


body concept that can empower participants to join in future classes. Bernstein will focus on body position and proper body alignment.
