Safe, Green Ways to Dispose of Your Clutter

Donate to a Good Cause Goodwill of San Antonio accepts almost anything under the sun - even computers and electronics. Local Salvation Army Family
Stores also accept donations of clothing, furniture and housewares. Save the earth, get rid of clutter, and help others in the process! Your donations are sold in their stores, and the revenues from those sales fund educational programs that put folks back to work. Visit www.GoodwillSA. org or

Hire a Disposal Company There are many “pay for pick-up” disposal companies. For example, a local company that has a “green” focus is Rubbish Works, which will pick up everything you no longer want in your home or office and deliver it

to the appropriate places: donations to Goodwill, building materials to Habitat for Humanity, recycling to the appropriate centers. You don’t even have to drag items to a certain spot – just point, and they’ll pick it up. Visit

Building and Hazardous
Materials With cooler temperatures, fall is a great time to start on home projects. Be sure to drop off your unused
paint, building and hazardous materials at these places:
n City of San Antonio Drop-off (hazardous):
www.SanAntonio.gov/ swmd. Remember to take a recent copy of your CPS bill and a picture ID as proof of residency.
n Habitat for Humanity is a great destination for unwanted building materials:

Recycling The average American produces 1,600 pounds of trash annually. Thankfully, San Antonio residents can recycle a lot of that trash through the city’s curbside

Medicine When you are cleaning out that medicine cabinet, don’t flush items down the toilet or rinse them down the garbage disposal. Both of these methods end up dumping chemicals into the water system. Instead, consider one of these alternatives:
n Find an environmentally friendly pharmacy. Check with your neighborhood pharmacy to see if they offer a disposal program. If your pharmacy offers disposal, ask them to get listed on this website:
