Local, Sustainable Food is the Focus at The Clean Plate

S

o many healthy, sustainable options are popping up for San Antonio residents, and a new lunch option

near downtown is worth mentioning: The Clean Plate, located at 1022 N. Main, at the triangle at Lexington and Main avenues. The emphasis is on “clean, local food,” meats and produce provided by farmers and ranches who demonstrate respect for the land and their animals, says Chef Catherine New, who oversees the restaurant’s menu. Menu items include Seasonal Veggie Pasta Sauté, Asian Chicken Salad, Fish Tacos and Spicy Stuffed Pepper.

Patrons are assured grass-fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free meats and local, fresh, sustainably grown produce. The back of The Clean Plate’s menu features a “who’s who” of local

producers, many familiar to regulars at local farmers markets: Shudde Ranch, Farm to Table, Parker Creek Ranch, Koch Ranches (which owns Gourmet Country Store), Peeler Farms, Loncito’s Lamb and more.

The Clean Plate is open for lunch from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, visit www.thecleanplatesanantonio.com, or call 210-229-9866.
