FIRST IMPRESSIONS First Impressions


This past month someone left a telephone message on the Oracle 20/20 line complaining that our content is not spiritual and how our publication is supposed to be a spiritual magazine. There was no call back number so I couldn’t ask the caller what part of the magazine she objected to as not spiritual, but the call gave me pause for thought, so I will address the query here in hopes that it will answer the question for the caller as well as anyone else who may have the same question.


1. There is nothing that exists other than spiritual. Everything originates with spirit. Every aspect of our lives carries a spiritual lesson and or component.


2. There is nothing in our magazine that claims to be a “spiritual” publication. Our cover footer describing the content lists, astrology, holistic health, human potential and deep metaphysics.


3. The online and Facebook description of the magazine is “Oracle 20/20 Magazine is a metaphysical publication that is just a little ahead of its time. It is geared to read- ers who like to think “outside the box”.


Now that that’s out of the way, there is a school of thought that says spirituality and religion are entertain- ment for the masses. Most of us can’t hear that because we are tied into our belief in a higher power, a power that has omnipotent control over the lives of mortals.


We fashion our gods and goddesses, after mortal humans giving them the ultimate power over the events of our lives. After all, it’s easier to blame God or Karma for our failures (we may call them lessons). It’s also easier to look to a saint or to Jesus to save us than to take the responsibility to save ourselves.


Bottom line is that most religion gives us an excuse for anything that is going wrong in our lives (we weren’t pious or good enough, whether in this life or a previ- ous one). It also gives us the way out, whether that is to confess our sins and be baptized or to follow a path of devotion or obedience – depending on which religion.


My belief is that each of us is a component of the mind and heart of a being greater than we can even conceive. Every blade of grass, insect, animal and human shares in the co-creation of the universe. We decide our own fate and our own path with our dreams, our fears, our plans and our unconscious connection to the “all that is”. We create individually and collectively. That to which we give our atten- tion becomes our reality. Some schools of thought say that each of us is experiencing a different reality simultaneously. In the words of a very wise person “be careful what you wish for (or fear) because you will probably get it.”
