Friday night to Sunday and creating the platform while still holding down full time jobs.

After this six-month

period, we decided the time was right to leave our day jobs and focus solely on Tictail. Once we had the beta website up and running, our fourth and final co-founder, Siavash, joined the team having discovered a hidden message within the website’s code asking anyone who found it to get in touch for a job!

My mother, who is an artist creating porcelain featuring old school tattoo

designs, became our first benchmark user. What we wanted to do was help people like my mother, who are great at branding and have a good following, but who know nothing about technology and e-commerce. Tictail democratises selling online, making it accessible and very simple to use. A Tictail store can be set up in minutes, and our unique feed offers advice throughout the process – not just when setting up a shop (for example inserting T&Cs or a returns policy) but also in terms of customer service and social media tips too.

Towards the end of 2012, Tictail raised over €1m in funding led by the UK firm Balderton Capital and Swiss investor Klaus Hommels, who also invested in Skype, Facebook and Spotify. We chose investors with extensive experience and a wide network that we could tap into, and having grown from 1 to over 18,000 Tictail stores in a year, we are confident that our platform will continue to grow and develop.
