Silver Eagle Gallery in Naples Relocates A

fter 18 years in Naples, Silver Eagle Gal- lery has relocated a few doors down the street to 850 Fifth Avenue South. The store has doubled the amount of retail space, enabling an expansion of its Native American jewelry collection and tripling the size of the gem and mineral gallery.

Owner Deborah Nelson explains, “We outgrew the old space and we were ready

to expand. It wasn’t easy finding a new space on [the same street] but when you voice your intention and focus on it, the universe delivers. Our new showroom is bright, airy and has wonderful energy. We just love it.” She adds that the store now offers a larger selection of sterling silver and contemporary jewelry, Native Ameri- can arts and crafts, books, spices, tea, sage and incense.

Youth Reading Events at Fort Myers Beach

Y

oungsters will advance their love of reading in a beautiful, natural

setting at two special children’s literary events hosted by Lovers Key State Park, on Fort Myers Beach, next month. Park rangers will read from Monarch and Milkweed, by Helen Frost and Leonid Gore, for ages 4 to 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, September 7; and from Dr. Suess’ The Lorax, for ages 7 to 12, September 14, at the same time.

After hearing passages from both

charming tales, which carry inspiring pro-wildlife messages, rangers will take attendees on a special guided nature walk and then help them create special art pieces to take home as memories of the fun and educational event.

The Global Garden Club at Avalon Elementary School, in Naples, earned first-place honors in the Multiple-Class Garden Category in the 2013 University of Florida (UF) Environmental Horti- culture Department’s School Garden Competition. This is the second time in recent years that a group of students from the third through fifth grades has won this prestigious award. The Avalon program was directed

by teacher Patricia Thorsen and Horticulturist Marianne Ravenna and supported by the Naples Botanical Gar- den (NBG) and residents of Windstar on Naples Bay. The competition was designed to

encourage the use of school gardens, which are judged according to educa- tion relevance, level of involvement and garden quality, sustainable garden- ing, integration of Florida State Stan- dards and community involvement.

For more information, call Thorsen at 239-377-6200 or Washburn at 239- 325-1915.
