which was to fi nd tags available in various colors that off ered an area for print. Ultimately, all of our needs have been met with this product. “Overall, Jtagz as a business has exceeded our expectations,” concludes Morris, “T e Company itself is remarkably professional – they are customer-friendly and always attentive. T ey’re reliable – the tags are excellent and the delivery expedient. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to any prospective customers.” Interestingly, while Jowsey always made it his goal


to off er a superior product and impressive service, he never actually planned to market products to the lifting and rigging industry. When he originally founded the business in 1980, he recalls, “We named it TagMaster and we were based out of Perth. We specialized in making small nylon tags for licensing dogs. We supplied them to municipal authorities and animal welfare shelters throughout New Zealand, then Australia, and eventually throughout the world. Today, we still market this item - it’s called the WrapStrap. “At one point, BHP Billiton from Melbourne,


Australia’s multinational mining and petroleum company, began using the WrapStrap. T ey were in need of identifi cation tags and found that our product remained in good condition when being used in a long-wall coal mine. T ey approached us and reported their positive fi ndings. T is made us re-think how our tags could be used and thus changed the trajectory of our business. “Over time, we found there was a demand for an adjustable tag. So we set about upgrading and reworking our off ering to better meet industry demands. T e Raktag was the end result. Basically, we found a problem which needed solving. We recognized that the lifting and rigging industry had some specifi c needs which weren’t being met and we came up with a simple solution. “Nowadays, you’ll not only fi nd the Jtagz Raktag


in Australia,” observes Jowsey, “but all over the world, from the United States and Canada, to the Middle East, Africa, and, of course, Asia Pacifi c. We’re supplying to companies such as Texas-based Holloway Houston Inc., Miller Lifting Products, a provider of lifting products and services, and Occidental Petroleum Corporation, the Los Angeles headquartered international oil and gas exploration and production company. Our tags are being used as inspection validation on slings, chains, shackles, wire ropes, above-ground harness gear, and roof anchors. T ey can be found throughout mines, on off shore rigs, in railway yards, and in heavy industrial settings.”


“So what began as a small, home-based business has


evolved and grown quite a bit,” says Jowsey. “Today, we’re a true global success story. And we’re still growing. At present, we have twelve professionals on staff and we’re in the process of building a new manufacturing plant in the United Kingdom. Jtagz has been in expansion mode for about seven years now. Soon, we anticipate we’ll be manufacturing in North America. T at’s the vision we’re working towards.” Jowsey expects more product innovations in the


future. “We’re broadening our horizons and delving into heavy plastic paper tagging products for lock- out, scaftags, and safety tagging. Clients will fi nd the tags off er a greater range of print options including barcoding. “We’re in a sustained expansion and development


mode,” he enthuses. “We’re ready and looking forward to what’s next.” y
