As reported in last time’s edition, a by-


election was held in the


Liberton/Gilmerton ward following the sad death of Councillor Tom Buchanan.


Polling Day was on Thursday 20th June with the count held the following day. I was delighted that Labour’s candidate Keith Robson was elected for the area. He lives locally in Southhouse and I know he will make a great addition to the Labour team in the area.


Earlier in June, I visited P7 pupils at Buckstone Primary School to discuss democracy and politics in Scotland. It was a hugely engaging


conversation with them and it was clear to me that they are more than ready for the next step up to Secondary School and all the challenges that it brings.


Their knowledge and understanding


of the ‘big issues’ that Scotland and the UK face was admirable and, as with pupils across Edinburgh South, they are not afraid to ask a tricky question or two. Best of luck for the future!
