I was delighted to visit ParentLine, run by

Children 1st as part of Volunteers Week, to say a big and heartfelt thank

you to all those volunteers who make crucial services like ParentLine possible.

All over South Edinburgh, local people give up

their own time to volunteer to make our City a better place. The contribution to those most in need can’t be emphasised enough.

My conclusion was that we shouldn't wait until Volunteers Week to say thank you. We should say it every day to our volunteer army - Thank You.

My job for the evening was to make the tea!

As the School year drew to a close, like every year since my election, I was contacted by many concerned parents who were trying to secure Primary School places for their children. It is clear that the pressure on local school

P1 places is unsustainable. This is very much a result of the previous council’s decision to close schools across the city, including Burdiehouse Primary which has also been demolished,

despite the evidence which showed there will be an increase in pupil numbers in the coming years because of new residential developments and changing demographics. The new City Local Development Plan –

which is discussed in more detail in subsequent pages indicates a new school will need to be built to deal with the population growth in our local area.
