Liberton and District Community Council is the statutory body which is charged with ascertaining and co-ordinating local views for an area which extends from Goods Corner in the north, Frogston Road in the south, Buckstone in the west and Gilmerton Road in the east. You can view the map on our website www.libertondistrict.org.uk. The Community Council can take forward


issues or items of concern raised by you to the appropriate body. Our term of office ends in September and, to


survive, we have to be reformed through nominations/elections. We are made up from up to 12 residents living in the Community Council area and representatives of up to 6 registered Local Interest Groups. Local Councillors, MSPs, MPs and MEPs are ex-offico members and can attend our meetings. The meetings are normally attended by the Police and Neighbourhood Partnership representatives. Anyone wishing to be a member of the new


Council must register between Monday 2nd September and Monday 23rd September (details will be given on our website and elsewhere). If there are more than 12 candidates a Notice of


Election will be published on 3rd October and the election will take place on 24th October. The selection of Local Interest Groups will take place at a meeting of registered Local Interest Groups. There are places for 6 Local Interest Groups on the Community Council. The current members of Liberton and


District Community Council consider that the Community Council has an important role to play in the ongoing happenings in the area. It is also vital that those living in the area have a voice on the future as the start of the new Council coincides with the consideration of the Local Development Plan, which has identified areas for development over the next decade. The Community Council has an input into many National, City and Local debates and, without a Community Council, the views of people living in Liberton and District may not be heard.
