Pulpy Orange for Russia


Still beverages with a pulp content are finding progressively more adherents among consumers worldwide. The Coca-Cola brand Pulpy is broadening its appeal, particularly in newly industrialising countries. In 2010, the chunky fruit juice was on sale in 14 different nations, while in 2011 Pulpy was already being produced and sold on 25 national markets.

or the premiere of bottling Pulpy in Russia, Coca-Cola HBC Eurasia chose its plant in Istra, to the north-west of


Moscow. The process selected was inline blending with aseptic filling. For this purpose, Krones installed the new process technology required, and integrated it into an existing PET- Asept line, whose filling technology was also modified.


Opted for inline blending In the production process for Pulpy Orange Juice, it’s vital to preserve the pulp undamaged from the beginning of the process to the end, and to integrate into the system only those monitoring and operator control elements that are really necessary. Empirical feedback from actual operations


had confirmed that aseptic inline blending offered very good preservation of the pulp, excellent dosing accuracy, and a high line output. “The paramount goal was to make the operation as gentle on the product as possible and to minimise damage to the fruit cells”,

bottling lines from Krones, which


could be used for this process. Coca-Cola HBC Eurasia chose the PET-Asept Line 1 (the first one that Krones had installed in 2007) for the modification project.


The kit was manufactured, tested at Krones and delivered to with the commissioning time for the entire system at just three weeks.


Fourth line with Contipure preform decontamination In 2011, Coca-Cola HBC Eurasia had for the first time embarked on a paradigm shift. After three PET-Asept lines with separate blow-moulders and fillers connected by air conveyors, the company decided to buy its first blow-moulder/filler monobloc, featuring a Contipure system, where the preforms are decontaminated within a few seconds at the Contiform in a treatment chamber located between the oven and the blow-moulder using gaseous hydrogen peroxide. Thanks to the optimal H2O2 concentration in conjunction with the hot preforms, a high decontamination rate for both the inside and outside of the preforms is assured. The risk of the preforms or bottles being recontaminated after decontamination is reduced to a minimum, since treatment is provided directly downstream of the oven and the bottles are blow-moulded with filtered air. “Coca-Cola HBC Eurasia is, of course, always keen to use the very latest technology, which in this case was Contipure“, says Natalia
