Central south businessmen have emerged victorious from the London and South East Director of the Year awards run by the Institute of Directors (IoD) and sponsored by PwC LLP
Peter Digby, managing director of Xtrac of Thatcham, Berkshire, was named Director of the Year in the Global Company category, while Stephen Blatchford, CEO of Chas A Blatchford & Sons of Basingstoke, won in the Family Business category

Young Director of the Year:
Xtrac manufactures high performance vehicle transmissions, supplying race teams in series including F1, Le Mans, the World Rally Championship, IndyCar Racing League in the USA and Touring Car Championships across the world. Its Automotive and Engineering team also works on defence contracts and is developing advanced transmissions for hybrid cars.
Peter Digby left grammar school early and took up an engineering apprenticeship in the aircraft industry. At the end of his apprenticeship he joined the Williams F1 team and has worked alongside luminaries from the sport such as Adrian Newey and Ross Brawn. This year he celebrated 25 years of working at Xtrac.
Chas A Blatchford and Sons is a fourth generation family business founded in 1890 by Stephen Blatchford’s great grandfather.
The company has two sides to its operations, a products business that manufactures lower limb prosthetic components of which more than 75% is exported, and a clinical services business providing prosthetic, orthotic and rehabilitation services to the NHS and MoD at Headley Court.
