Joshua Stone, 20, Founder of Biscuit Base www.biscuit-base.com www.facebook.com/biscuitbaseltd

1. Give us an elevator pitch for your company

Biscuit Base makes and sells Somerset heritage, stone-baked shortbread, made with Somerset Organic Spelt Flour, butter and fair-trade British sugar with no added preservatives and 100% recyclable packaging. We take great honour in helping others, which is why Biscuit Base proudly donates 5% of our profits to charity to support UK farmers.

2. How did your entrepreneurial journey begin? I was born and raised in Somerset where my family home is. The Somerset

heritage shortbread recipe has been in my family for about 100 years and after training to be a chef I realised that I could start a company doing what I love, so when I enrolled to university I was pointed in the right direction to start Biscuit Base.

3. What has been your biggest achievement so far?

I would have to say that my biggest achievement so far would be how a simple family recipe has transformed my hobby into my own company, as well as becoming fair-trade certified.

4. Where do you see your company in 5 years? I see Biscuit Base selling to a global market via wholesale for independent stores and supermarkets.

5. What is the best advice you’ve been given? If there is no risk there is no reward.
