Wigan Athletic won the Third Division title on the ‘goals scored’ rule having finished equal with Fulham on 87 points. This new rule had been introduced in 1996-97 replacing ‘goal difference.’ Runners-up Fulham had the superior goal difference. £350 - 450

Bolton Wanderers’s Joe Smith is 10th in the all time list of England top-flight League goalscorers, netting 243 times. In an illustrious career who won two F.A. Cup winner’s medals, and later as a manager guided Blackpool to their famous Cup win in 1953.


Despite his incredible goalscoring record Smith won just 5 England caps either side of the First World War. The Tour of Canada, for which this cap was awarded, is not considered to have been at full international level. £500 - 700
