556 A 9ct. gold 1948 Football Association Charity Shield runners-up medal awarded to Jack Warner of Manchester United, inscribed FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION CHARITY SHIELD, J. WARNER, M/c UNITED F.C., 1948


John ‘Jack’ Warner (1911-1980) was a Welsh footballer born at Swansea. The wing-half made 135 League appearances for Swansea Town before moving to Old Trafford in 1938-39. The Second World War interrupted his Manchester United League career and he eventually moved to Rochdale in 1951-52, becoming their manager the following season. Jack Warner was also capped twice for Wales, and made one wartime international appearance.


In the 1948 Charity Shield Manchester United were beaten 4-3 by Arsenal at Highbury. Six of the goals were scored in a pulsating first half. £1,000 - 1,500

Dennis Allen Walker was born in Hackney, London, 26th October 1944. The midfielder signed to Manchester United in 1961 and made one first-team appearance v Nottingham Forest on 20th May 1963, before he was released and joined York City, and then finished his career at Cambridge United in 1972.


Dennis Walker died at Stockport 11th August 2003 aged 58. £150 - 250
