Oldenburg Verband, the OHBS adheres to the same mare and stallion approval methodology and inspection philosophy. Mares and stallions must be approved for breeding and all foals must be evaluated, DNA tested and micro-chipped before their foals can receive their Germany-issued passport. Te OHBS enjoys complete reciprocity between Germany and North America.
Jumping Towards Success Over the years, the standards and expectations of modern
equestrian sport have continually risen. Tis is thanks to the ever- improving quality of horses being produced by breeders. In 2001, the Springpferdezuchtverband Oldenburg International e.V. (the German Oldenburg Jumper Registry) was established. Since its birth the jumper registry has grown tremendously with one clear goal: the exclusive production of elite Oldenburg jumper horses. It is no surprise that the names of the founding members include show jumping greats and stalwart German Oldenburg breeders such as Paul Schockemöhle, Gilbert Böckmann and Gerd Sosath. Te jumping division is an alliance between breeding and sport, demanding top jumping ability, technique, rideability, responsiveness and health from their horses. Jumper registry breeders also have an array of choices in

their breeding considerations due to the GOV’s open bloodline policy resulting in rapid growth and success. A prime example is the Oldenburg Springpferde mare Contanga 3 by Catoki out of Catana by Contango/Watzmann. Partnered with German rider André Tieme, the scopey young mare has achieved great success on the winter 2013 circuit in Florida. At the end of March she galloped double-clear to victory in the $100,000 Sullivan GMC Truck Grand Prix in Ocala, and helped Germany win team bronze in the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival’s Nations Cup in Wellington. As the jumper registry continues to mature, it will only gain in strength and recognition.
Foundation Sire Donnerhall’s
Dressage Dominance In modern dressage breeding and competition, the dominance of the ‘D-line’ blood cannot go unmentioned. Te legendary liver chestnut German Oldenburg stallion Donnerhall was one of the very first stallions to balance a career in breeding and Grand Prix competition. competitions partnered with rider Karin Rehbein. In addition to his impressive show ring accomplishments, he produced over 75 approved sons, 184 titled daughters and over 1,000 offspring competing in sport. It is no wonder that the famous stallion is considered one of the cornerstones of modern German Oldenburg dressage breeding. At the 2012 Olympic Games, the entire silver medal German
dressage team was comprised of horses sired by Donnerhall or sired by sons of Donnerhall. Damon Hill by Donnerhall, Desperados by De Niro, Diva Royal by Don Frederico and reserve Dablino by De Niro all display their sire or grandsire’s trademark of power, trainability and impressive collective work. Te fourth placed Danish team also contained a large amount of D blood: Anna Kasprzak’s Donnperignon and Nathalie zu Sayn- Wittgenstein’s Digby are also sired by Donnerhall. In addition, Swedish Tinne Vilhelmson Silfven’s Olympic partner Don Auriello is sired by Donnerhall grandson Don Davidoff. Together, these fantastic horses combine to further cement his legacy. Tey are among the best of the legions of competitors this line has produced, showcasing the traits handed down: rideability, strength to handle collection and the mental ability to handle the highest echelons of sport.
Oldenburg Dam Lines Build Young Stars Te Oldenburg’s strength comes from its never-ending evolution.
Its current dressage success has been built upon generations of carefully selected stallions and powerful multi- generational dam lines. One modern
example of this is the overwhelmingly successful dressage dynasty of Elite- St. Loretta by Ramino out of Lassie by Welt As/ Luciano. As mother to a trio of talented licensed sons—Royal Hit, Vice World Champion and Grand Prix dressage horse Diamond Hit and World Champion and Bundeschampion Sandro Hit—this Elite mare has heavily influenced the shape of modern dressage breeding. When her son Sandro Hit burst upon the breeding scene, prices for dressage horses reached new heights as his long-legged, dark, elegant offspring moved with a mechanism and an articulation never seen before.
