News Flags fly for St Piran


BILLED as the biggest celebra- tion of its kind in the world, Re- druth hosted its annual St Pi- ran’s Festival at the beginning of March.


The town was a sea of black and white for the weekend of music, food, drink and enter- tainment as visitors and towns- people celebrated the patron saint of tinners and Cornwall. The event began with a mid- day procession through the streets, including school stu- dents, the Grand Bard of Corn- wall, dignitaries and a newly- created 6ft lamb courtesy of Re- druth School!


Exhibitions and craft activi- ties were held at the Cornwall Centre, and a real ale fest in- cluding homemade pasties, sausage fayre and St Aubyn Singers was held at St Rumon’s Club, with ska band Rudis Mes- sage in the evening


There was street entertain- ment at Tatie Court from RedY- OUth, a St Piran’s Feast (Gool Piran), exhibitions and Cornish poetry from Pol Hodge and Bert Biscoe at Murdoch House. Open days were also held at the CMR art gallery and Corn- wall Neighbourhoods for Change.
