One year ago this month, the first issue of Natural Awaken- ings Twin Cities was published. What a whirlwind year this has been, meeting tons of people, attending informative meetings, finding new businesses in the area, attending health expos and sustainable-living conventions and learning more about green roofs, community gardens and the importance of every little action we take as individuals, both for our own human health as well as the health of the planet. It has been an amazing journey!
One of my favorite things has been hearing from readers of Natural Awakenings.
They call or write or approach me at expos and share with me how much they enjoy the magazine. One of the first questions I’ll ask is, “Where do you get your copy?” Since we have more than 300 locations in the area, it’s always good to hear where people are finding the magazine. Each month we reach more than 25,000 readers, offering positive messages of
natural health and sustainability while helping to build a mutual network that benefits our area’s expanding holistic and green-living communities. April is our Green Living edition and our feature article by Linda Sechrist discusses
“The Next Level: Education for a More Sustainable World.” Part of the needed change that Sechrist highlights is to help students experience transformational learning as com- pared to informational learning. The former encourages the ability to cultivate capacity and not just acquire facts: “Demonstrating transformational learning at its best, they [students] experience the connectedness of the global community through the lens of economic, social and environmental crises...”
Also featured this month is Paul Thompson, founder of Cool Planet. This Minnesota nonprofit focuses on fun activities to bring people together while educating us and helping us learn to be responsible, forward-thinking stewards of the Earth. Thank you all for your ongoing support, enthusiasm and encouragement as Natural
