spending in Saudi Arabia accounts for almost 39 percent of the total tourism receipts. In 2012, it generated a revenue of SAR31 billion (US$8.27 billion) and this is expected to post an annual increase of over five percent to SAR51 billion (US$13.6 billion) in 2022. Aside from building Saudi Arabia’s
tourism sector, SCTA is also responsible for promoting the country’s economic, social, environmental and cultural values. One of its most significant steps has been the introduction of tourism awards to promote high standards in the industry. It has also introduced visitor magazines and websites to help raise awareness of Saudi Arabia and its various attractions. Most importantly, SCTA is equipped with the
financial resources to ensure that Saudi Arabia has the maximum impact on international markets. One of its most important missions is to promote the kingdom as a global destination, both for leisure and business.
MEETING VENUES In total, Saudi Arabia lists more than 600 potential meetings venues – a figure that is growing monthly – most of which are based in its main business cities: Riyadh, Jeddah andDammam. Most often, hotel conference facilities
are used to stage events, while dedicated exhibitions venues in the kingdom remain at a premium. SCTA estimates that Saudi Arabia has
some 55 principal venues and of those at least 40 are hotels, with dozens more due for completion in 2013. The jewel in the crown is the Riyadh
International Convention and Exhibition Center, which has been completely redeveloped by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce into a 15,000-square-metre venue offering a 1,100- seat auditorium, among other facilities. When it comes to hotel venues, the new Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh Palace Hotel offers an
